PM2.5 Filter - What are they and why are they needed?

A PM2.5 filter is a disposable insert that is replaced regularly and improves a face mask's filtration effectiveness by filtering out microscopic particles that ordinary cotton and polyester masks can't block on their own.

A good quality filter has a 5 layer combination of non-woven fabric, melt-blown fabric and an activated carbon layer. These filters work by creating an electrostatic barrier to capture and block the microscopic particles in the air.

Although there is no hard and fast rules on how often to replace a PM2.5 filter a rough guide is every 16-24 hours. Less if using in dusty or other heavily polluted environments.
